To manage heavy crowds during Mahaparinirvan Diwas (5–7 December 2025), Central Railway has suspended platform-ticket sales at 13 busy stations. Exemptions apply for senior citizens, ailing, children and women needing assistance.
Mumbai |06 December 2025: The Central Railway zone has temporarily suspended platform-ticket sales at 13 major railway stations from December 5 to 7, 2025, in view of expected surge of travellers owing to Mahaparinirvan Diwas. The decision aims to prevent overcrowding on platforms and ensure safe, smooth boarding and alighting of trains.
The ban applies at two busy Mumbai-division stations Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Dadar Station from December 5 to 7. In the Bhusaval division, sales are suspended at Bhusaval Railway Station, Nashik Road Railway Station, Manmad Junction, Jalgaon Junction, Akola Junction, Shegaon Railway Station, Pachora Junction, Badnera Junction, Malkapur Railway Station and Chalisgaon Junction on December 5–6. Additionally, Nagpur Railway Station will see the ban on December 5–6.

According to CR’s statement, this temporary restriction is meant to help manage the influx of devotees travelling to pay homage on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. However, exemptions have been provided for senior citizens, ailing persons, children, illiterate persons and women who are travelling alone or need assistance, ensuring they can still access platforms when necessary
Passengers have been urged to plan their travel accordingly. With growing concerns of overcrowding and safety during peak travel periods, the suspension underscores efforts by the railways to prioritise orderly movement over convenience for occasional visitors.
