Cold Wave ‘Yellow Alert’ Issued for Multiple Maharashtra Districts as Temperatures Plunge
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for northern, central and Marathwada districts of Maharashtra, warning of sharp drops in minimum temperatures and persistent cold wave conditions
Pune | November15 ,2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Maharashtra, forecasting a sustained cold wave and precipitous drop in minimum temperatures across North Maharashtra, Marathwada and parts of Vidarbha over the next few days.
According to the alert, the districts of Nandurbar, Dhule, Nashik, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Beed are expected to experience the most severe impact, with night temperatures potentially falling into the low double digits (e.g., around 8 °C in Nashik) as early as November 16.
Statewide, Pune is forecast to see minimums around 12 °C and highs near 30 °C, while Kolhapur may drop to 18 °C overnight before warming slightly during the day. In contrast, coastal and Konkan regions, including Mumbai, will remain relatively mild with minimums around 19 °C, though the cold wave effect could gradually extend there too.
The IMD has urged citizens—especially the elderly, children, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions—to take precautions. Suggested measures include layering warm clothing, ensuring adequate indoor heating, and limiting exposure during the coldest hours. Farmers in affected districts have also been alerted, as winter crops like tur and horticultural produce may suffer from the sudden temperature drop.
With the alert in effect from November 14 onwards and expected to persist through at least November 17, local administrations are on heightened readiness for cold-related health issues, power demand surges and possible strain on emergency services.
Citizens are advised to monitor local weather updates daily and stay informed of any further escalation in alert levels.
