Nanded, Maharashtra | Nov 18, 2025 – :
A young competitive exam aspirant was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Nanded, leading to allegations of foul play and a police investigation. The deceased, identified as Sheetal More, was discovered hanging in a room belonging to her friend in the Pangri area. She had gone there to study, as she reportedly did on a regular basis. The incident has caused shock in the locality and triggered questions about the safety of students living or studying away from home.

According to initial information, Sheetal had been staying at her family home but often visited her friend Madhav Kale’s rented room to prepare for her exams. On the day of the incident, the door remained locked for an unusually long time. When neighbours and other students tried to check on her, they found her unresponsive inside the room. She was found hanging from a ceiling hook and police were immediately informed.

Her family has rejected the suggestion that she died by suicide. They claim she had no history of emotional distress and was deeply committed to her studies. They have accused her friend of involvement and believe the scene may have been staged. Sheetal’s relatives have demanded a deeper probe, saying they suspect she was killed and the death was made to look like suicide. The police have registered a case and detained Kale for questioning.

Investigators are now examining phone records, message logs, location data and CCTV footage from the nearby area. A forensic analysis and post-mortem report will be key in determining whether the injuries match a suicide or indicate force or assault. Police officials have confirmed that the cause of death is not yet conclusively established and they are keeping all possibilities open.

The case has raised concerns about the growing number of students who stay in private rooms, PGs or rented flats while preparing for competitive exams. Such living arrangements often lack formal supervision, and families must rely on trust. Local residents and activists have pointed out that female students in particular are vulnerable in such setups and that institutions and authorities need to create support systems and safer spaces.

The incident has also sparked fresh discussion around the pressure associated with competitive exams. While there is no indication that this case is linked to academic stress, the wider issue of student mental health and safety remains in focus. In several cities across Maharashtra, similar tragedies have been reported in recent years, either through suicide or suspected foul play.

Police say the investigation will intensify once the post-mortem findings are available. They are also speaking to Sheetal’s friends, coaching peers and neighbours to gather more clarity about her last hours. Her family is emotionally devastated and demanding justice. They have also asked for a second medical examination if they feel the first report is inconclusive.

For now, the incident remains unresolved and has left the community deeply unsettled. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information to contact Nanded police. The case will continue to be watched closely as it moves forward through forensic analysis and legal procedure.
