India’s aviation sector celebrated excellence at Wings India 2026, with Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Lucknow airports winning top honours. Awards highlight growth in connectivity & service.

Pune,January 30, 2026: India’s rapidly growing aviation sector took centre stage at the prestigious Wings India 2026 awards, where several airports and aviation stakeholders were recognised for their outstanding performance, infrastructure development and service excellence. Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the event celebrated achievements that reflect India’s ambition to emerge as a global aviation hub. Among the standout winners, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, secured the Best Aerodrome of the Year award, highlighting its consistent performance in passenger handling, operational efficiency and world-class facilities.

In the category of high-traffic airports, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, was adjudged the best airport in the above 25 million passengers per annum segment. The recognition underlined Bengaluru airport’s ability to manage rising passenger volumes while maintaining service quality and connectivity across domestic and international routes. Pune Aerodrome, a key aviation gateway in western India, earned the top honour in the 10–25 million passengers per annum category, reflecting its growing importance amid increasing business and leisure travel demand. Meanwhile, Lucknow International Airport was recognised as the best in the 5–10 million passengers per annum segment, signalling the expanding role of regional airports in India’s aviation growth story.

The awards also acknowledged excellence among airlines and aviation service providers. Air India received recognition for strengthening domestic connectivity, especially by linking major cities with emerging regional destinations. At a time when global aviation faces challenges such as geopolitical tensions in West Asia involving Iran and Israel, along with disruptions to international routes like the Mumbai–London flight, the focus on robust domestic networks has gained added importance. InterGlobe Aviation Limited was honoured as the Best Aviation Service Provider, reinforcing its reputation for operational efficiency and customer service in India’s competitive airline market.

Cargo operations and logistics, a vital component of the aviation ecosystem, were also in focus at Wings India 2026. Air India Limited, in partnership with WFS (Bengaluru) Pvt Ltd, received recognition for excellence in cargo services, highlighting the sector’s role in supporting trade, e-commerce and supply chain resilience. Efficient cargo handling has become increasingly critical as India seeks to strengthen its position in global manufacturing and exports.

Regional air connectivity, a cornerstone of the government’s UDAN initiative, was another major highlight. Star Air, operated by Ghodawat Enterprises, won the award for excellence in Regional/UDAN connectivity, acknowledging its efforts to connect smaller cities with larger aviation hubs through affordable and reliable air services. Such initiatives are vital for balanced regional development and reducing travel time for passengers in non-metro regions.

Industry experts noted that the Wings India 2026 awards not only recognise current performance but also set benchmarks for future growth. With India witnessing rising air passenger traffic and infrastructure expansion, these honours reinforce confidence in the sector’s ability to adapt and innovate. Recent incidents affecting travel sentiment, including major road accidents such as the Ahmedabad incident, have further underscored the importance of safe, efficient and reliable transportation systems — a responsibility increasingly shouldered by the aviation sector.

Presented by the Union Civil Aviation Minister, the awards ceremony saw participation from policymakers, industry leaders and global stakeholders. The recognition of airports like Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Lucknow reflects the broader transformation underway in Indian civil aviation, driven by investments, technology upgrades and policy support. As India continues to expand its aviation footprint, such achievements signal a strong foundation for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
