After sustained protest by the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, the Daulat-Atharv Sugar Factory in Kolhapur today agreed to pay ₹3,500 per tonne for sugarcane, offering ₹3,400 as first installment and promising the balance season-end payment
Kolhapur|05 December 2025:The Daulat-Atharv Sugar Factory has agreed to pay ₹3,500 per tonne for sugarcane this season, following persistent demands from Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana and mounting pressure from sugarcane growers. The factory announced a first installment of ₹3,400 per tonne, with the remaining ₹100 to be settled at the end of the crushing season.
Farmers in Kolhapur’s Chandgad district welcomed the move. According to the union’s district vice-president, the written commitment from the mill administration restored growers’ faith after weeks of protests, demanding a fair rate that accounts for rising transportation and production costs.

Until recently, many sugar mills in the region had declared rates ranging from ₹3,400 to ₹3,600, but several factories had delayed announcing price support, sparking strong agitation from farmer groups.
The Swabhimani Sanghatana had warned of intensified action, including the halting of cane transport and sit-ins, if mills failed to declare fair cane prices before the crushing season began.
The announcement is being seen as a significant victory for growers in western Maharashtra. Farmers hope this will set a benchmark for other mills and prompt them to declare similar or higher rates, ensuring adequate returns in the face of escalating input costs and labor.
