Pune, Maharashtra | Nov 18, 2025 – :
A chilling case has come to light in Pune after the decomposed body of a woman was recovered from a deserted stretch of the Lohegaon–Wagholi Road. The body was found near a garbage dump close to Gurudwara Colony and the condition of the remains indicates that the woman may have been dead for several days. Airport Police arrived at the location after a local resident reported a foul smell and noticed the body lying in an isolated patch off the main road.

Police suspect the woman was murdered and her body dumped in the area to avoid detection. The location is sparsely populated, and officers believe that the crime may have occurred elsewhere before the body was transported. Investigators estimate that the victim may have been around 35 years old, but her identity remains unknown since no documents or belongings were found near the body.

The remains have been sent to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem examination. Forensic experts will determine the cause of death and attempt to provide a timeline, although decomposition makes the process more challenging. Police have registered a case of suspected murder and are treating the incident with high priority.

Officers from the Airport Police Station and crime detection units have begun examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, but much of the stretch is poorly monitored, with long gaps between surveillance points. Local inquiries have also started, including checking recent missing-person reports from Pune and surrounding districts. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the victim may be a migrant worker, given the peripheral nature of the area and absence of quick identification.

Residents living near the spot expressed fear and concern over the discovery. Many pointed out that even though Wagholi and Lohegaon are fast-developing urban patches, they still lack proper lighting, frequent patrolling and waste management. Locals have urged the administration to increase security in the stretch, which has become a dumping spot for garbage and now, possibly, a body.

The police have appealed for public assistance and asked anyone with information about missing women or suspicious activity to step forward. Officers are also checking phone tower data to track movement in the area during night hours. The nature of the crime scene suggests the suspect may have chosen the location intentionally due to its limited foot traffic and low visibility.

Crime in fast-growing edges of Pune has become a rising concern. Compared to the central city, areas like Wagholi, Lohegaon, Keshavnagar and Kesnand have seen an increase in unmonitored spaces where criminal activity can go unnoticed. Police have indicated that additional patrols will be deployed until more details emerge about the case.

The investigation remains active, and more clarity is expected after forensic reports are submitted. For now, the discovery of a decomposed body in broad daylight has unsettled residents and raised questions about safety and policing in the outskirts of Pune. Authorities hope public cooperation and technical analysis will lead them to the killers and help identify the woman whose life ended in such tragic circumstances.
