Dehu Immersed in Devotion as Sant Tukaram Maharaj Beej Celebrated with Traditional Fervour

Thousands of devotees gathered in Dehu to mark the 378th Sant Tukaram Maharaj Beej, with chants of “Tukaram Tukaram,” devotional rituals and processions creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere across the holy town

Dehu | 6 March, 2026: The sacred town of Dehu in Pune district was immersed in devotion as the 378th Sant Tukaram Maharaj Beej was celebrated with traditional rituals and large participation from devotees and Warkaris who arrived from across Maharashtra.

The festival commemorates the day when the 17th-century saint poet Sant Tukaram Maharaj is believed to have attained “Vaikunthgaman” or divine ascension. From the early hours of the morning, the town echoed with devotional chants, bhajans and the rhythmic sounds of cymbals and drums as thousands of devotees gathered along the banks of the Indrayani River.

Religious ceremonies began before dawn with the traditional Kakad Aarti at the main temple complex. Devotees then participated in various rituals including pujas at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple and the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Shila temple. Bhajani groups performed continuous kirtans and Haripath recitations, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere throughout the town.

One of the key moments of the celebration took place around noon, when devotees offered floral tributes at the historic Nandurki tree associated with the saint’s ascension. As flowers were showered from the tree, thousands of devotees folded their hands in prayer while chanting the saint’s name.

The Indrayani riverbank witnessed massive crowds, with pilgrims taking holy dips before proceeding for temple darshan. Local authorities and temple trusts had made extensive arrangements for crowd management, security and basic facilities to accommodate the large number of visitors.

The annual Tukaram Beej celebration holds deep significance in Maharashtra’s Warkari tradition and draws devotees every year to Dehu, the birthplace of the revered saint. The event once again reflected the enduring spiritual legacy of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and the deep devotion of the Warkari community.
