The Delhi High Court has permitted IRS officer Sameer Wankhede to file a defamation case in Mumbai against a web series produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s company, citing lack of territorial jurisdiction.

Delhi| 04 February, 2026:Justice Vikas Mahajan allowed Wankhede’s application and directed both parties to appear before the civil court at Dindoshi in Malad on February 12. The court clarified that Wankhede would be permitted to file his complaint before the Mumbai court, which has appropriate territorial jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Earlier, on January 29, the Delhi High Court had observed that it did not have the jurisdiction to adjudicate the dispute, prompting Wankhede to seek formal permission to pursue the case in Mumbai. Following this, the court approved his request, enabling him to proceed with legal action in the appropriate forum.

Wankhede has alleged that the web series contains defamatory portrayals aimed at maligning his image. He claims the series was created as an act of vendetta linked to the 2021 narcotics case involving actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, who was arrested during a cruise ship drug bust and later released.

According to Wankhede, the series was deliberately written and directed to target him personally and damage his reputation. He has contended that the portrayal is misleading and intended to settle personal scores rather than present factual events. The matter is now expected to be taken up by the Mumbai civil court, where further proceedings will determine whether the content in question amounts to defamation under law.
