Tanaji Sawant tells Shiv Sena workers in Dharashiv to be ready to “walk alone”, hinting at strain inside the MahaYuti ahead of local body elections.

8 November 2025, Dharashiv – Political temperature in Dharashiv went up a notch after MLA Tanaji Sawant urged his workers to be prepared to stand independently with the slogan “Ekla Chalo Re”. Sawant has been touring Paranda, Bhoom and Washi, where he held meetings with Shiv Sena workers and suggested that even though the MahaYuti alliance exists at the state level, the party should not hesitate to contest alone if the situation demands.

During his address he told party workers that strength in numbers does not matter as much as people’s support. He said that even if the alliance partners are many, the Shiv Sena should act with confidence and be ready to put up candidates across local bodies on its own merit. According to him, the focus should remain on development and not on criticising opponents, adding that the people expect performance and consistency. Sawant also announced that the party is preparing to field around 20 candidates for various local body posts in Dharashiv.

This comment is being viewed as a signal of growing friction inside the MahaYuti, which includes Shiv Sena, BJP and other partners. On the ground the political dynamics are often different from state-level agreements, and Sawant’s words reflect that independent calculations are already underway in the district. His tour drew reactions from rival camps as well. Local NCP leaders criticised him, claiming the meetings he attended were allegedly arranged by opposition-linked groups.

They argued that the call to “walk alone” highlights internal confusion rather than confidence. Sawant dismissed these reactions, saying that the development of the constituency is the priority and that he will challenge anyone who tries to derail that work, even if it means taking an uncompromising political stand. The shifting mood within the alliance is significant because local body elections often influence the political narrative for upcoming state-level contests. If Shiv Sena in Dharashiv stands independently, it could lead to triangular or even multi-cornered fights in several wards.

This may also impact the alliance’s combined vote share, especially in regions like Paranda and Bhoom where coalition partners historically rely on each other. Residents in the district are watching closely as the pre-election scene becomes more unpredictable. Political observers note that while alliances often remain intact publicly, leaders on the ground sometimes take positions based on local arithmetic, pressure groups and internal expectations. Sawant’s statement has added an element of uncertainty at a time when candidate lists and grassroots alliances are being finalised. Whether this turns into a full-fledged shift in the MahaYuti’s strategy or remains a district-level message will be clearer in the coming weeks.
