Pimpri-Chinchwad | March 12, 2026: The Government of Maharashtra has appointed senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr Vijay Suryawanshi as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), one of the fastest-growing urban local bodies in the state. The appointment was confirmed through an official order issued by the state government, entrusting Dr Suryawanshi with the responsibility of overseeing civic administration and development initiatives in the rapidly expanding twin city.

Dr Suryawanshi, a 2006-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, brings with him extensive administrative experience gained across several key positions in the state government. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Divisional Commissioner of the Konkan Division, where he played a crucial role in coordinating governance, development programs, and administrative activities across the region.
With his new role in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Dr Suryawanshi will now lead the civic administration of a major industrial and residential hub adjoining Pune. Over the past decade, Pimpri-Chinchwad has witnessed significant growth in terms of infrastructure, population, and economic activity, largely driven by the presence of major manufacturing industries, IT companies, and a rapidly expanding residential sector. As Municipal Commissioner, Dr Suryawanshi will be responsible for implementing development projects, strengthening civic infrastructure, improving public services, and ensuring effective governance across the city.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation plays a crucial role in managing urban planning, sanitation, water supply, transportation, public health services, and infrastructure development in the region. He completed his schooling at Sainik School in Satara, a prestigious institution known for grooming students for leadership and public service. He also studied at a Zilla Parishad school in Deola in Nashik district, highlighting his grassroots educational background.
Dr Suryawanshi has pursued higher education across multiple disciplines. He holds a PhD in Management, demonstrating his expertise in governance and organisational leadership. In addition, he has completed an MBA in Marketing, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics. His academic achievements reflect a strong commitment to knowledge and policy understanding, qualities that are considered valuable in public administration.
Officials in the state government believe that his combination of administrative experience and academic qualifications will contribute significantly to the governance and development of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The city continues to expand as a key economic and industrial centre within the Pune metropolitan region, making effective municipal leadership crucial for sustaining growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
