Police in Wardha uncovered a large drug manufacturing unit and seized mephedrone and chemicals valued at more than ₹190 crore during a major raid.

Wardha, December 09, 2025: A massive drug manufacturing setup has been dismantled in Wardha district, where enforcement teams seized a large quantity of mephedrone along with chemicals used in processing synthetic drugs. Officials estimate the total value of the seized substances at over ₹190 crore, making it one of the biggest such operations in Maharashtra recently.

According to initial details, officers raided an industrial location where they discovered a fully equipped laboratory with reactors, processing units and containers believed to be used for converting raw chemicals into mephedrone. Investigators say the factory appeared to be operating for some time and was producing drugs for distribution across multiple regions. Several suspects have been detained and are being questioned.

Police sources revealed that nearly 128 kilograms of mephedrone and more than 240 kilograms of precursor chemicals were recovered from the spot. The volume of material indicates the unit was producing drugs on a commercial scale, not merely storing them. Officials say equipment found at the site points to regular production cycles rather than intermittent activity.

The operation was based on intelligence inputs, and authorities acted quickly to prevent the accused from escaping. Investigators are now focusing on identifying suppliers of the chemicals and the network responsible for distribution. Teams are also examining electronic records, financial transactions and communication devices seized during the raid.

Local residents were surprised to learn that such a facility had been operating in the district. Some community members expressed concern over the spread of synthetic drugs and urged police to continue extensive monitoring, especially in industrial zones and isolated sheds that may be misused for illegal activity.

Officials have warned that synthetic drugs pose a major risk to public health and have the potential to damage communities, especially youth. They emphasised that stricter enforcement, public cooperation and early reporting of suspicious activity are essential to prevent similar operations from taking root.

Enforcement agencies are treating the case as part of a wider investigation into drug networks in Maharashtra. They believe the Wardha unit may be linked to groups involved in both state-level and inter-state trafficking. More arrests are expected as the probe moves ahead and links between suppliers, financiers and distributors become clearer.

Authorities said this seizure sends a strong message that drug production will not be tolerated and that law enforcement will pursue every person involved in the chain. With synthetic narcotics becoming a growing challenge, the Wardha raid is being seen as a significant blow to illegal networks operating in the region.
