A drunk driver crashed into a road divider near Navale Bridge in Pune. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the incident raises renewed safety concerns.

Pune | November 24, 2025: A fresh incident of reckless driving was reported near Navale Bridge in Pune, after a car rammed into a road divider late on Sunday night. Police said the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and lost control while navigating the busy highway stretch. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the car suffered only moderate damage.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver veered off his lane before striking the divider. Police officials are conducting a detailed inquiry, including medical examination and breathalyser tests, to establish the level of intoxication. The vehicle has been seized for inspection, and charges under drunk driving and negligent driving are expected to follow.

The Navale Bridge stretch — part of the Pune–Bengaluru bypass — has earned a reputation as one of Pune’s most accident-prone zones. The area has witnessed several collisions in recent years, often linked to overspeeding, brake failure on descending slopes, distracted driving, and now increasingly, drunk driving. Traffic experts note that the gradient of the road, combined with high-speed movement and heavy vehicle traffic, makes it particularly vulnerable to accidents.

Local residents and daily commuters express growing frustration with the frequency of mishaps. Many point out that despite repeated enforcement drives, the number of incidents has not decreased significantly. They have urged authorities to introduce permanent measures such as better signages, rumble strips, stricter speed control systems, and advanced surveillance equipment.

In response to ongoing concerns, Pune Traffic Police have intensified checks in the region. Patrol units have been deployed during night hours, especially on weekends when cases of drunk driving tend to spike. Officials say that the combination of poor judgement under the influence and the challenging road design makes this stretch extremely risky.

The recent accident — though fortunately injury-free — once again underscores the urgent need for responsible driving and stronger enforcement. Authorities continue to appeal to motorists to avoid alcohol consumption before driving and to adhere to speed limits to prevent avoidable tragedies.
