Education Officer Arrested for ₹1 Lakh Bribe in Shalarth ID Scam in Pune
: A Pune education sub‑inspector was caught accepting ₹1 lakh bribe to approve a Shalarth ID needed for teacher’s salary; arrests deepen concerns over corruption in school employment system.
Pune, 27 November 2025: A Pune education sub‑inspector was recently arrested for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe to approve a Shalarth ID — a mandatory credential required for a teacher’s salary disbursement. The complainant, whose wife works as an assistant teacher in a state‑aided school, had waited years for salary payments due to the missing ID. Following a complaint to the state’s anti‑corruption agency, a sting operation was conducted, and the officer was caught red‑handed accepting the bribe.
The incident has sparked outrage among teachers and civic-watch groups, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities in the Shalarth ID approval system. Authorities have initiated a full inquiry into departmental processes to identify procedural lapses and possible collusion, while the teacher’s ID has now been processed. The case underscores systemic corruption risks that delay salaries and erode trust in educational administration. Experts and union representatives have demanded stricter audits, automated approvals, and transparent procedures to prevent such exploitation in the future, emphasizing that issuing a Shalarth ID should be a routine bureaucratic process rather than a matter of bribery.
