Two men in Pune’s Chikhalwadi allegedly demanded monthly payments and vandalised the victim’s car and motorcycle after he refused. Police have registered an extortion case.

Pune, December 09, 2025 – Police in Pune have registered a case of extortion and vandalism after two men allegedly threatened a resident in Chikhalwadi and then damaged his property when he refused to pay. According to the complaint, the accused demanded ₹6,000 every month and warned that they would sell his belongings if he failed to make the payments.

Investigators have identified the accused as Arman Amir Shaikh and his associate Zohid, also known as Jabba. The two reportedly approached the victim claiming they were from the locality and implying he must pay them for protection. When he rejected the demand, they allegedly smashed the window of his car and broke the glass of his motorcycle.

Police said the victim immediately filed a complaint after the attack. Officers recorded his statement and documented the damage caused to both vehicles. A case has been registered under sections related to extortion, criminal intimidation and property damage. Police are now searching for the accused and checking whether they have been involved in similar incidents in the area.

Residents have expressed concern over the incident, saying such behaviour spreads fear and encourages criminal elements. Some locals say these types of threats are becoming more frequent and need firm action from law enforcement. They believe a visible police presence and faster response could deter such crimes and make the neighbourhood feel safer.

The incident also highlights how extortion demands can start informally but escalate quickly when victims refuse to cooperate. Crime observers say such cases often involve young groups who try to build local influence by intimidating residents. They advise citizens to report threats immediately instead of negotiating or paying, as payments often lead to more demands.

Police have appealed to people in Chikhalwadi and nearby areas to stay alert and share information if they notice suspicious activity. Officers are examining nearby CCTV recordings and gathering witness statements to strengthen the case. They also indicated that further charges could be added if more victims come forward.

For now, the investigation continues and police say they expect to make arrests soon. The case serves as a reminder that attempts at extortion, even at a local level, can escalate into violence and need a strong legal response to protect residents and discourage repeat offenders.
