Gadhinglaj police registered a case against two men after arresting them with a fake CID ID card and forged number‑plate, exposing a scheme of impersonation and potential public fraud. Citizens urged to verify IDs.
Gadhinglaj (Kolhapur), 29 November 2025: Authorities in Gadhinglaj have registered a criminal case against two individuals accused of impersonating government officers after police discovered a fake CID identification card and official‑style number plate in their vehicle. The men were allegedly using these forged credentials to misrepresent themselves as public servants, raising serious concerns about identity fraud and misuse of authority.
The incident came to light on Thursday night when police, acting on intelligence inputs, stopped the suspicious vehicle. Inside, investigators found a counterfeit CID identity card and a fake number‑plate items that suggested the individuals planned to impersonate state officials and deceive people, possibly to avoid tolls or carry out other fraudulent activity.

Officials say the two accused have been booked under relevant sections pertaining to fraud and impersonation. Police are now probing whether the suspects were acting alone or part of a larger racket supplying fake identity documents. As investigations proceed, authorities have warned citizens to stay alert and verify credentials if approached by anyone claiming to be a CID or other government agent.
This case comes amid growing concern across Maharashtra about forged identity cards and imposters misusing official‑sounding designations. In response, some police departments including the Mumbai Police have initiated plans to introduce secure digital smart‑ID cards for officers to curb such misuse.
The Gadhinglaj police have urged anyone with information about the suspects or their network to come forward. They also reminded citizens that valid official ID cards can be cross‑verified with local police stations before cooperating with self‑proclaimed officers.
