Fake EWS certificate case surfaces in Agalambe as authorities cancel Shruti Paygude’s certificate after a two-and-a-half-year probe, exposing forged documents used to secure the Police Patil post

Agalambe (Haveli Taluka) | 17 December 2025 : In a significant administrative action, the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) certificate of Shruti Navnath Paygude from Agalambe village in the Khadakwasla area has been cancelled after it was conclusively proved that the document was obtained using forged and misleading records to secure the Police Patil post. The order was issued by Haveli Sub-Divisional Officer Dr. Yashwant Mane following a detailed investigation and document verification process that spanned nearly two and a half years.

According to the official order, the inquiry established that false information and fabricated documents were submitted while applying for the EWS certificate, making it invalid under existing rules. In view of the findings, the administration has cancelled the certificate with immediate effect. Officials have also indicated that the next stage may involve initiating criminal proceedings for submission of forged documents and for misleading government authorities to gain a public post.

The case has gained further significance due to contradictions found in the beneficiary’s past records. As per information revealed during the inquiry, Shruti Paygude had contested the Agalambe Gram Panchayat elections in 2019 under the OBC category. However, in 2023, she allegedly availed benefits under the open category by using an EWS certificate, raising serious concerns about dual benefits being taken under different reservation categories at different points in time.

During the course of the investigation, it also emerged that the disputed EWS certificate was used specifically to secure the Police Patil post, a key village-level administrative position. The inquiry focused on income details, property records and supporting documents submitted at the time of application, all of which were found to be inconsistent with eligibility norms for the EWS category. The matter was persistently followed up by Advocate Monali Paygude, whose sustained legal efforts brought the issue to the attention of the administration and ensured that the case was examined thoroughly. Based on the findings, the Sub-Divisional Officer’s order clearly states that legal action for submitting forged documents is now under process, signalling a stricter approach by authorities in such cases.

This incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over the misuse of fake certificates to obtain government posts and benefits. The case has drawn public attention in the region, with many closely watching how firmly the administration proceeds against such violations, which undermine the credibility of reservation policies and deny genuine beneficiaries their rightful opportunities.
