Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered inspections of all gyms and made it mandatory to appoint female trainers for women members to strengthen safety and prevent illegal activities

Varanasi | 6 March, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to ensure that all gyms across the state appoint female trainers for women members, making the measure mandatory as part of efforts to strengthen safety and oversight in fitness centres.

The directive was issued during a law-and-order review meeting held at the Circuit House in Varanasi. During the meeting, the chief minister instructed officials to conduct inspections of gyms throughout the state and verify whether the required facilities and safety standards for women are being maintained.

According to officials, the government’s decision comes in the wake of complaints and investigations involving certain gyms where allegations related to coercion and illegal activities had surfaced in recent weeks. Authorities believe stricter monitoring and structural changes within gyms will help prevent such incidents and improve safety for women.

Under the new directive, gym operators will have to ensure the presence of qualified female trainers specifically for women and girls attending fitness centres. The government has warned that establishments failing to comply with the rule could face strict action.

During the review meeting, the chief minister also instructed police and district officials to keep a close watch on illegal activities and maintain strong law-and-order arrangements ahead of upcoming festivals such as Holi.

The move is part of a broader push by the state administration to tighten regulation of public facilities and ensure a safer environment for women in places such as gyms, training centres and other recreational spaces. Officials say inspections will continue across districts to verify compliance with the new directive.
