A major 20-inch water pipeline burst in Nashik’s Panchvati area during underground fiber cable work, disrupting water supply and causing hardship for residents during the Holi festival period
Nashik | 5 March, 2026: Water supply in parts of Nashik’s Panchvati area was disrupted after a major underground pipeline burst during fiber cable installation work carried out by a private telecom company in the Konark Nagar locality.
According to local reports, the incident occurred near the Datt Mandir area where a private contractor was laying underground fiber cables using heavy machinery. During the process, a 20-inch main pipeline supplying water to the locality was accidentally damaged, leading to a sudden burst.

The pipeline rupture resulted in immediate disruption of water supply in the surrounding residential areas, particularly those located behind Ganesh Market. Residents were left without water during the Holi and Dhulivandan festivities, adding to the inconvenience faced by households in the area.Following the incident, angry residents and local representatives gathered at the site and demanded an explanation from officials of the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s water supply department. Citizens raised concerns about the lack of coordination between civic authorities and private contractors undertaking infrastructure work in the city.

Municipal officials later reached the spot to assess the damage and initiated repair work to restore the pipeline. Authorities said efforts were underway to fix the burst section at the earliest so that normal water supply could resume in the affected localities. The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by uncoordinated underground utility work in rapidly expanding urban areas, where multiple agencies often carry out parallel infrastructure projects without proper planning. Residents have urged the civic administration to ensure stricter monitoring of such work to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
