Pune civic body approves a ₹120 crore flyover project at Mahatma Phule Chowk, aiming to decongest the busy Mundhwa-Kharadi stretch with a double-decker structure for vehicles and metro
Pune | 18 March, 2026: In a major step towards addressing traffic congestion in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation has approved the construction of a flyover at Mahatma Phule Chowk on the Mundhwa-Keshavnagar to Kharadi bypass road. The decision was taken during a standing committee meeting held on Tuesday.
The project, estimated at over ₹120 crore, will feature a double-decker structure designed to accommodate both vehicular traffic and a proposed metro corridor. Officials stated that the flyover will be constructed in coordination with metro authorities, as a metro route is planned along the Hadapsar-Magarpatta to Kharadi stretch.

As per the approved plan, the total length of the flyover will be approximately 1,080 metres, with the main bridge spanning 796 metres. Additional approach roads measuring 136 metres on the Kharadi side and 148 metres on the Mundhwa side will also be developed. The structure will have a width of 16 metres, allowing for separate dual lanes to ensure smoother traffic flow.
The project will include the construction of 36 pillars, of which 28 will be built along the road and eight within the River channel. The estimated project cost, including taxes, quality checks, and other charges, is expected to reach around ₹158 crore.
Authorities have set a completion timeline of 24 months, although efforts will be made to expedite the work. Once completed, the flyover is expected to significantly ease congestion in key areas such as Mundhwa, Keshavnagar, and Kharadi, offering relief to daily commuters.
