Zomato has increased its platform fee by ₹2.40 to ₹14.90 per order across India, making online food delivery slightly more expensive for users nationwide.

New Delhi | March 21, 2026: In a move set to impact millions of users, Zomato has increased its platform fee for food delivery orders across India. The fee has been raised by ₹2.40, taking the total charge to ₹14.90 per order.

The revised fee is already visible on the app and is applicable across all cities where the platform operates. Earlier, the platform fee stood at ₹12.50 per order, making this the latest in a series of incremental hikes by the company.

The increase means that customers will now pay a higher overall bill for each order, as the platform fee is added separately from delivery charges, taxes and restaurant pricing. With GST included, the effective fee becomes even higher, adding to the total cost of ordering food online.

Industry experts suggest that rising operational costs, including fuel prices and logistics expenses, are among the key reasons behind the hike. Global factors such as increasing crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions have also contributed to higher delivery costs, which companies are now passing on to consumers.

The move brings Zomato’s pricing nearly in line with its main competitor Swiggy, which currently charges a platform fee of around ₹14.99 per order, including taxes.

Meanwhile, smaller players in the market are adopting different strategies. Some competitors have chosen not to increase platform fees in order to remain competitive and attract price-sensitive users. This could intensify competition in the already crowded food delivery sector.

This is not the first time Zomato has revised its platform fee. The company has periodically increased charges over the past few years as part of efforts to improve profitability and manage rising costs. The latest hike, however, comes at a time when customers are already dealing with multiple charges on food delivery orders.

For consumers, the change translates into a marginal but noticeable increase in the cost of ordering food, especially for frequent users. While the hike may not significantly affect occasional users, regular customers could see their monthly spending on food delivery rise.

Despite concerns over rising costs, industry analysts believe that demand for convenience-driven services like food delivery is likely to remain strong, even with moderate price increases.

As competition intensifies and operational costs continue to fluctuate, further pricing adjustments in the sector cannot be ruled out in the coming months.
