Jahanara Alam has accused ex-selector and manager Manjurul Islam of sexual harassment during the 2022 Women’s World Cup. Bangladesh Cricket Board sets up committee to investigate the claims.

Dhaka | November 7, 2025:
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed an inquiry committee after former national women’s team pacer Jahanara Alam accused a former selector-manager of sexual harassment. The allegations pertain to alleged misconduct during the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

In her interview, Alam claimed that Manjurul Islam, who once served as a selector and manager of the women’s side, made indecent proposals to her. She alleged repeated inappropriate remarks and behaviour including physical advances like putting hands on shoulders without consent, and asking intrusive questions about her menstrual cycle.

Alam said she raised her concerns formally with Bangladesh Cricket Board officials at various levels. Still, she claims no meaningful action was taken at the time.

In response to the allegations, the BCB has described the matter as “sensitive” and announced the formation of a committee tasked with investigating the claims thoroughly. The Board said the panel must submit its findings within 15 working days.

The accused  Manjurul Islam  has responded by calling the allegations “baseless.”

The incident has sparked debate over internal governance and accountability within women’s cricket in Bangladesh. Activists and observers say this could test the BCB’s willingness to address deeper concerns about player safety and conduct.
