Former PSI from PCMC Booked for ₹93 Lakh Investment Fraud After Earlier Bribe Arrest
A suspended Pimpri-Chinchwad police sub-inspector now faces a fresh ₹93 lakh cheating and forgery case, accused of luring investors with “double money” promises. Investigation ongoing.
Pune, 27 November 2025: A former police sub‑inspector attached to the Pimpri‑Chinchwad police commissionerate has been booked for allegedly defrauding multiple investors of ₹93 lakh, adding to his legal troubles after an earlier bribery arrest. The complaint, filed by a 43‑year‑old resident, stated that the officer promised to double an investment of ₹18 lakh within 20 months; the complainant reportedly received only ₹15.4 lakh back, leaving ₹20.6 lakh unpaid. During investigation, police found six additional victims who claimed they were offered either double returns or monthly interest of four percent, bringing the total alleged fraud to ₹93 lakh. Alongside the former officer, two co‑accused — an autorickshaw driver and a real‑estate agent — are being questioned for assisting in the scam. The officer was already suspended following a bribery case, in which he was caught allegedly demanding a ₹2 crore bribe from a lawyer in exchange for manipulating bail proceedings; authorities seized ₹46.5 lakh in cash and other assets from his residence. This dual scandal — involving both bribery and large‑scale investment fraud — has raised concerns about policing integrity and public trust, as officers with sensitive access may exploit authority to solicit bribes or run scams. Residents in Pimpri‑Chinchwad and surrounding areas expressed shock over the betrayal, calling for speedy investigations and recovery of funds. Police are tracing the full extent of the fraud, identifying additional victims, and questioning co‑accused to dismantle the network, while assets seized in both cases may be used for victim restitution if the court approves. The case highlights systemic vulnerabilities in law enforcement and underscores the need for robust internal audits, transparency, and accountability to prevent abuse of public trust.
