Foundry Industry in Maharashtra Faces Severe Crisis Amid Rising Costs and Export Slowdown

The foundry sector in Maharashtra is grappling with unprecedented challenges due to soaring raw material prices, stalled exports and fresh tariff pressures linked to global trade policies.

Mumbai | March 19 2026: The foundry industry in Maharashtra is facing an acute crisis as a combination of rising input costs, export disruptions and global trade uncertainties continues to impact operations across the sector.

Industry stakeholders report that the sharp increase in prices of essential raw materials such as pig iron, scrap metal and coke has significantly raised production costs, making it difficult for foundries to remain competitive. Many small and medium-scale units are struggling to sustain operations under mounting financial pressure.

Adding to the concerns is the slowdown in exports, which has affected order flows and revenue streams. Export-oriented units, in particular, have been hit hard as international demand weakens and logistical challenges persist in global markets.

The situation has been further aggravated by tariff-related developments associated with policies linked to Donald Trump.
