Four Children Detained at Solapur Airport for Flying Kites; Case Filed Against Their Parents

Solapur | November 7, 2025: Security at Solapur Airport was again under scrutiny when four children were caught flying kites within the airport’s premises on Thursday. The incident triggered swift action by the local police, who not only detained the children but also began investigations into their parents and nearby nylon thread vendors.

According to police officials, the matter came to light when a pilot reported that a chartered aircraft arriving from Mumbai had nearly encountered nylon kite‑thread (manjha) entangled in its rotor fan while landing. The alert was passed to airport authorities who in turn alerted the MIDC Police.

The police say that despite frequent announcements warning against kite flying in and around the runway, the activity continued. On Thursday, under a combing operation led by MIDC Police, four children were found on the run‑way side flying kites. They were immediately taken into custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kabade confirmed the action and added that investigations are now expanding to include vendors who supply nylon thread – which is banned around the airport. Cases have been registered under relevant sections of aviation and public safety laws.

Local airport officials said that stray kite‑threads pose serious hazards to aircraft operations, especially during take‑off and landing. They warned that such lapses not only risk lives but could also lead to major aviation mishaps. The police have declared stricter surveillance and increased patrols in the airport’s peripheral areas.

Parents of the detained children are being held responsible for allowing their wards into restricted zones, and the case could set precedent for tighter enforcement across airports in the region.
