Government on Alert as Tanker Driver’s Union Threatens Indefinite Strike From March 5

The Government of Maharashtra has issued an urgent alert to district administrations, police commissioners, and civil supplies authorities across the state after the Republican Truck-Tanker Driver and Cleaner Union warned of an indefinite strike starting

Mumbai| March 5, 2026: The caution comes from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department at the state secretariat in Mumbai, which has underscored the potential impact of the strike on fuel distribution if the union follows through with its threat.

According to the official directive signed by Ashok Atram, Deputy Secretary, authorities have been told to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to maintain law and order ahead of and during the proposed strike. District collectors, police superintendents, the Controller of Rationing, Directors of Civil Supplies, and supply officers have all been instructed to monitor the situation closely and implement preventive measures to avoid disruption.

If the tanker drivers halt operations, it could affect the steady supply of essential petroleum products across Maharashtra, including LPG, petrol, diesel, CNG, and kerosene. Officials are also being asked to hold discussions with union representatives and related organizations in a bid to persuade them not to proceed with the indefinite action. The government warned that any interruption to fuel and cooking gas distribution could create major inconvenience for citizens and urged local authorities to prepare contingency plans.

In addition to maintaining supplies, district authorities have been told to report back to the state government promptly on any actions taken in response to the strike threat. The communication follows a letter from the State-Level Coordinator of the Oil Industry in Maharashtra, which highlighted the seriousness of the situation and the need for readiness
