Gurugram (Haryana)| February 22, 2026:Gurugram: A horrific case of violence against a 19‑year‑old woman has emerged in Gurugram’s Badshahpur area, where her live‑in partner allegedly assaulted her with extreme brutality, pouring sanitiser on her private parts and attempting to set them on fire, police said. An FIR was registered at Badshahpur Police Station on February 19, 2026, after the victim provided her statement.

According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Shivam, a resident of Narela in Delhi, persuaded the victim originally from Tripura and a biotechnology student living in Sector‑69, Gurugram to enter into a live‑in relationship under the pretext of marriage. The couple first met through an online app in September 2025 and began living together.

The FIR alleges that over time the accused became suspicious of the victim and began physically assaulting her. On February 16, 2026, she was allegedly beaten with a steel bottle, had her head smashed against walls and furniture, struck with an earthen pot, and subsequently subjected to the brutal act of having sanitiser poured on her private parts and set on fire. The accused also reportedly attacked her legs with a knife and threatened to severely injure her so that she would “never be able to walk or bear children”.

The complaint also states that the accused recorded explicit videos of the victim. On the night of February 18, the woman managed to use his phone to alert her mother in Bengali a language the accused did not understand leading her mother to call emergency services. Police arrived at the scene and initially admitted her to a local hospital before she was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.

Doctors later declared her fit to give a detailed statement, which police recorded. The FIR invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to grievous harm, assault with dangerous weapons, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation. An investigation is underway as authorities probe the full extent of the assault and other possible charges.

The case has drawn significant public concern about violence in live‑in relationships and the need for stronger protective measures for women.
