HARMAN commits ₹345 crore to expand its automotive electronics facility in Pune, increasing capacity by 50%, creating jobs and strengthening India’s role in connected-mobility manufacturing.

Mumbai, October 28, 2025: Global automotive electronics firm HARMAN has announced a fresh investment of ₹345 crore to expand its manufacturing facility at Chakan, near Pune. The funding includes an immediate allocation of around ₹45 crore, with the balance of approximately ₹300 crore earmarked for rollout over the next three years. This additional outlay brings the company’s cumulative investment at the site to roughly ₹554 crore since its inception in 2014, emphasising India’s growing importance in global automotive electronics manufacturing. The expansion will increase built-up area by around 71,505 sq ft, including a new production floor of about 45,000 sq ft, and add four new SMT (surface-mount technology) lines along with module and speaker manufacturing capabilities. Capacity is projected to rise by over 50 percent, enabling the plant to deliver an annual output of up to four million car-audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units and 0.8 million telematics control units by 2027. The facility already supplies major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra, as well as export markets in Europe and North America. In parallel with the capacity surge, the expansion is expected to create around 300 new jobs in the Pune region by 2027. The facility will also manufacture HARMAN’s “Ready Connect” telematics control unit locally – a next-generation 4G/5G device offering over-the-air updates, cyber-secure diagnostics, cloud connectivity and vehicle-to-network alerts. The move aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India, for the World” vision, underscoring Pune’s status as a strategic hub for advanced mobility manufacturing. Sustainability has been woven into the expansion plan: the plant currently generates over 317,000 kWh of solar energy annually and offsets nearly 200 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, with a target to transition to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030. In summary, this investment signals a major step in India’s automotive-electronics journey, positioning the Chakan facility not just as a domestic production site but as a global export hub for connected car technologies.
