Home Delivery of Driving Licence and RC Book Gets Costlier in Pune

Home delivery charges for driving licences and vehicle registration certificates in Pune have increased, affecting motorists who opt for doorstep services.
January 14, 2026 | Pune: Motorists in Pune will now have to shell out slightly more for home delivery of driving licences and vehicle registration certificates as the cost for this convenience service has been revised upwards. Under the updated structure, vehicle owners who choose to have their documents delivered to their doorstep will pay ₹70 instead of the earlier ₹58, reflecting an increase that took effect from January 1, 2026. This revision means that while the convenience of doorstep delivery remains intact, residents should be prepared to incur a marginally higher fee when opting for the service.

The home delivery option is widely used by individuals after successfully completing their driving test or after purchasing a new vehicle. It helps citizens avoid repeated visits to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the long queues typically associated with collecting official documents. With the updated charges, those benefits continue, but at a slightly elevated cost.
Transport officials have confirmed that the revision aligns with broader postal tariff adjustments introduced by the postal service, which handles the delivery of driving licences and registration certificates as part of its official agreement with the transport department. The partnership ensures that documents reach applicants securely and promptly, with tracking and accountability throughout the delivery process.
Local motorists have had mixed reactions to the increase. Many acknowledge that paying a little extra is worthwhile for avoiding time-consuming visits to government offices, especially given the persistent rush and administrative delays at local RTO counters. For professionals, senior citizens, and those with limited time due to work or family commitments, home delivery remains a preferred choice despite the higher fee.

However, some vehicle owners have expressed concerns that even minor cost increments can add up, especially for families with multiple licensed drivers or those who frequently renew documents. These drivers argue that while doorstep delivery is a convenience, affordability should not be overlooked, particularly in a city where everyday expenses are already on the rise.
Transport authorities have emphasized that the revised delivery charges are a response to increased operational costs and adjustments in postal service tariffs. They also stressed that the home delivery system helps in reducing congestion at RTO offices — a benefit that enhances overall efficiency in administering driver and vehicle services.
The revised charges apply uniformly across all vehicle categories and for both driving licences and registration certificates. Citizens are advised to factor in the updated fee when submitting applications if they intend to receive their documents by mail.
Overall, the increase in home delivery charges underscores a broader trend of cost adjustments in civic services, reflecting changes in service delivery models and rising logistical expenses. While the hike is modest, it has set off conversations among Pune’s motorists about the balance between convenience and cost in day-to-day official processes.
