Pune | October 28, 2025: In a recent administrative reshuffle, the Maharashtra government has appointed IAS officer Pavneet Kaur as the new Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). An official order issued by Subhash Umaranikar, Deputy Secretary of the General Administration Department, confirmed her appointment, marking an important change in Pune’s civic leadership.
Pavneet Kaur gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic for her proactive role in managing the shortage of hospital beds and coordinating between government and private hospitals in Pune. The outgoing Additional Commissioner, M. J. Pradeep Chandran, has been transferred after serving in the post for nearly seven months. His transfer comes as part of routine administrative movements within the state’s bureaucratic framework.

Officials within the PMC have welcomed Kaur’s appointment, highlighting her reputation for efficiency, field experience, and decisive crisis management skills. Her prior track record in handling health emergencies is expected to strengthen the civic body’s planning and administrative coordination.
Sources in the civic administration indicated that under Kaur’s leadership, the PMC could focus more on improving public health systems, digital governance, and preparedness for future urban challenges.
Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to ensure continuity and strengthen the civic administration’s functioning ahead of major urban infrastructure and health-related initiatives planned for Pune.
