Pune, April 2, 2026: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle by the Maharashtra government, IAS officer Prithviraj B. P. has been transferred from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), where he served as Additional Municipal Commissioner, to assume charge as Municipal Commissioner of Vasai-Virar.

During his tenure at PMC, Prithviraj B.P. emerged as a key administrative figure, handling multiple critical portfolios and driving reforms across revenue, technology, environment, and urban development.

One of his major focus areas was strengthening the civic body’s financial health. He played an important role in streamlining the property tax system, improving assessment processes, and boosting recovery mechanisms, which contributed to enhancing PMC’s revenue base.

In line with the growing emphasis on digital governance, he actively pushed for the adoption of IT-driven solutions within the municipal system. Initiatives under his watch included digitisation of civic services, strengthening of online platforms, and implementation of monitoring systems aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in service delivery.

Environmental concerns, particularly deteriorating air quality, also received attention during his tenure. Prithviraj B.P. was associated with efforts to improve Pune’s Air Quality Index (AQI), including stricter enforcement of dust control norms, better inter-departmental coordination, and enhanced monitoring of pollution levels across the city.

A key highlight of his tenure was his involvement in the execution of the riverfront development project within PMC limits. He played an important administrative role in coordinating between multiple departments, ensuring timely implementation, and monitoring on-ground progress of the project. His role also included addressing compliance issues and facilitating clearances as PMC moved forward with river rejuvenation and riverbank development works.

Importantly, PMC secured the second position in the state under the 150 Days Governance Reforms programme, a performance milestone in which Prithviraj B.P. played a crucial role. His contribution in driving administrative efficiency, inter-departmental coordination, and timely execution of reform targets was seen as instrumental in achieving this ranking.

Known for his firm administrative style, he led several anti-encroachment drives and enforcement actions, targeting illegal constructions and violations across Pune. His approach was often regarded as decisive, particularly in matters of civic regulation and compliance.

Officials note that Prithviraj B. P. managed multiple departments simultaneously during a period marked by rapid urban expansion and increasing civic demands, reflecting the administration’s reliance on his leadership.

With his new appointment in Vasai-Virar, a fast-growing urban region facing infrastructure and governance challenges, expectations remain high that he will replicate a similar model of tech-enabled governance, financial discipline, and urban development.

His transfer marks the end of a significant chapter in Pune’s civic administration, where his tenure is likely to be remembered for its emphasis on digital transformation, environmental management, and structured urban growth.
