Pune Police and Baitul Mal Foundation jointly organize an Iftar event in Kondhwa Khurd to foster social harmony; Police Commissioner assures smooth traffic and safety during Ramadan
Pune|24 February 2026: On 23 February 2026, a special Iftar event was organized in Kondhwa Khurd to mark the fifth day of the holy Ramadan month, jointly conducted by the Kondhwa Police Station and the Baitul Mal Foundation. The event was graced by the presence of Pune Police Commissioner, Mr. Amitesh Kumar, along with several senior police officials and community leaders, emphasizing social unity and community engagement during the festive period.

Senior officials in attendance included Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ranjankumar Sharma; Additional Commissioner of Police, Mr. Manoj Patil; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 5, Mrs. Rajlakshmi Shivankar; Special Branch DCP Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakre; Traffic Branch DCP Mr. Himmat Jadhav; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wanawadi Division, Mrs. Namrata Desai, among others. Community representatives present included Altaf Merchant, Abid Sayyed, Haji Tausif Shaikh of Baitul Mal Foundation; Salim Shaikh, President of Kausarbagh Trust; current corporator Haji Gaffur Pathan, Majhar Maniyar, Maulana Kari Abdullah of Kausarbagh Masjid, and other local leaders.
Residents of Kondhwa Khurd participated in large numbers, highlighting the strong community engagement. During the event, the Police Commissioner assured citizens that during Ramadan, efforts would be made to ensure smooth traffic flow around mosque areas for evening iftar, so that worshippers can reach without inconvenience. He also instructed the public to report any anti-social or criminal activity in the area, stating that strict action would be taken against offenders during the holy month.

The Commissioner expressed concern over the rising use of narcotics among youth and urged citizens to cooperate with the police in eliminating illegal drugs from the city. To comply with Supreme Court guidelines regarding public calls for prayer, the Kausarbagh Society Committee developed a mobile-friendly online Azan app, which was inaugurated by the Police Commissioner. Citizens were encouraged to use the app responsibly for Namaz announcements.
The program was organized by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 5, Mrs. Rajlakshmi Shivankar, Senior Police Inspector Mr. Kumar Ghadge, and Crime Inspector Mr. Navnath Jagtap of Kondhwa Police Station. The event was hosted by Ismail Agwan. The initiative successfully promoted community harmony, social engagement, and public safety in the Kondhwa area during the sacred month of Ramadan.
