New Delhi, India | December 19, 2025: India and the Netherlands have taken a significant step to deepen their defence partnership, signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) on Defence Cooperation. The announcement followed a high-level meeting between Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and the Netherlands’ Foreign Minister Mr David Van Weel in New Delhi on December 18, 2025.

The discussions focused on a wide range of bilateral security and defence issues, with special emphasis on co-development and co-production of defence equipment. Both Ministers highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening military-to-military ties and integrating defence industries from both nations, particularly in niche technologies and advanced platforms.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and the Netherlands to maintaining a free, open, inclusive, and rule-based Indo-Pacific region. Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh and Netherlands Ambassador to India Ms Marisa Gerards formally exchanged the LoI in the presence of the two Ministers, signaling both countries’ intent to explore joint projects and collaborations.

Shri Rajnath Singh underlined that people-to-people ties remain robust, noting the contribution of the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands as a living bridge strengthening bilateral friendship. The LoI is expected to serve as a foundation for a Defence Industrial Roadmap, enabling technology collaboration, co-production, and co-development of platforms and defence equipment for mutual benefit.

Officials from both nations highlighted the importance of sustaining long-term strategic cooperation, with defence and technological collaboration forming a key pillar of the broader Strategic Partnership. The agreement is expected to open new avenues for innovation, security cooperation, and enhanced defence readiness in the Indo-Pacific region.
