India’s First Heavy Electric Truck with Swappable Battery Launched in Pune by CM Fadnavis
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis launches India’s first heavy-duty electric truck with swappable battery in Pune, marking a significant step towards sustainable freight mobility.
Pune, October 17, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated India’s first heavy-duty electric truck equipped with swappable battery technology in Pune. The launch event took place at a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan and was attended by industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders from the transportation sector. This initiative is being hailed as a significant step toward sustainable freight mobility and the promotion of green logistics solutions across India.
During the inauguration, CM Fadnavis highlighted the state government’s commitment to sustainable mobility, stating that Maharashtra aims to achieve 52% renewable energy capacity by 2030. He emphasized that introducing heavy-duty electric trucks aligns with the government’s vision for green transportation and the development of dedicated electric vehicle corridors, such as the newly inaugurated Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor.
The newly launched electric truck, designed specifically for Indian road conditions, comes with several advanced features. Its swappable battery system allows for energy replacement in just two minutes, reducing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency. The truck also boasts a 55-tonne payload capacity, making it suitable for heavy-duty logistics and freight operations. Equipped with smart sensors, the vehicle can detect overloading and ensure compliance with traffic regulations, thereby enhancing road safety. The design ensures durability and reliability even on India’s diverse and challenging terrains.
The truck’s launch marks a new era for electric freight transportation in India. The integration of swappable battery technology addresses one of the major challenges of EV adoption — charging time — and ensures that commercial operators can maintain efficiency without compromising environmental benefits. Officials highlighted that the Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor, coupled with battery swapping stations, will facilitate smooth operations for electric freight vehicles along key transport routes, significantly reducing carbon emissions and operational costs.
Industry leaders expressed optimism about the potential impact of this launch, stating that it could revolutionize logistics and pave the way for widespread adoption of electric commercial vehicles across the country. Experts also noted that such initiatives could accelerate India’s transition toward sustainable mobility and encourage private sector participation in green transportation solutions.
The inauguration reflects Maharashtra’s leadership in embracing technological innovation and sustainability in transportation. By providing infrastructure, regulatory support, and technological advancement, the state is setting an example for other regions in promoting eco-friendly logistics and reducing the carbon footprint of the transportation sector.
