Induction Cooktops Go Out of Stock Online as LPG Supply Concerns Trigger Panic Buying
Rising concerns over LPG cylinder availability across India have led to a sudden surge in demand for induction cooktops, causing many models to go out of stock on major online platforms.
March 12, 2026 | Pune Growing concerns about the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders have triggered a sharp surge in demand for electric cooking appliances across India, with induction cooktops rapidly going out of stock on several online retail platforms. The sudden spike in demand reflects increasing anxiety among households about potential disruptions in cooking gas supply.
Reports indicate that many consumers have rushed to purchase induction cooktops as a backup cooking option amid fears of delayed LPG deliveries and rising fuel prices. As a result, popular models of induction stoves on quick-commerce and e-commerce platforms such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart have been listed as “sold out” in several cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

Industry experts say the demand surge is directly linked to global geopolitical tensions in West Asia that have raised concerns about energy supply chains and fuel availability. The uncertainty has prompted households to look for alternative cooking methods, with induction cooktops emerging as the most convenient option due to their affordability and ease of use. Retailers and appliance manufacturers have reported an unprecedented spike in sales in the past few days. Some e-commerce platforms have witnessed multiple-fold increases in orders, while physical retailers are also experiencing a rush of customers seeking electric cooking solutions.

The surge has also led to increased demand for induction-compatible cookware such as flat-bottom pans and pots. Market observers note that the situation highlights India’s heavy dependence on LPG for household cooking and how quickly consumer behaviour can shift when supply concerns arise. While authorities have reassured citizens that there is no major LPG shortage, the sudden buying spree has already strained inventories of induction cooktops and related appliances across several markets.
