Interfaith Relationship Dispute Turns Fatal in Pune’s Ambegaon Area

A 34‑year‑old man was fatally attacked in Pune’s Ambegaon area over a relationship dispute, police register a murder case and hunt for suspects.

Pune| December 25,2025: A personal dispute over an interfaith relationship in Pune’s Ambegaon area ended tragically when a 34‑year‑old man was attacked with a sharp weapon and later died in hospital. The victim, identified as Javed Pathan, had developed a relationship with a woman, which reportedly angered her brother and an associate. The confrontation occurred near a local washing centre around 7 pm and quickly escalated into violence.

Pathan sustained serious injuries and was first taken to a nearby medical facility before being shifted to a larger hospital due to the severity of his wounds, where he later succumbed. Police have registered a murder case and identified 25‑year‑old Sandeep Rangrao Bhurke and another accomplice as suspects, both of whom are currently at large. Search teams have been deployed across Ambegaon and neighbouring areas to apprehend them.

Authorities noted that such incidents, particularly those involving disputes over interfaith or socially sensitive relationships, can escalate rapidly and lead to tragic consequences. The local crime unit is actively gathering witness statements, reviewing CCTV footage, and coordinating with regional units to track down the accused. Checkpoints and mobile patrols have also been set up to prevent the suspects from evading arrest.

The incident has raised concern among residents in the Ambegaon and Narhe communities, highlighting the dangers of unresolved personal conflicts and the impact of familial and societal pressures. Civic groups have called for awareness programs and community support systems to help mediate such disputes before they turn violent.

Police have emphasised that violence is never a solution and have assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice. Investigations continue as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events and motive behind the attack.
