Iran Missile Strike Escalates Conflict; Azerbaijan Claims Drone Attacks
Rising tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel have intensified as Iran reportedly launched missile and drone attacks, while Azerbaijan also reported strikes, widening the scope of the conflict.

Tehran | 06 March, 2026: The ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has intensified significantly, with reports indicating that the hostilities have now expanded into maritime areas and neighbouring regions. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Thursday that its naval forces carried out a missile strike on an American oil tanker in the northern Persian Gulf. According to statements released by the IRGC, the targeted tanker caught fire following the missile attack and was still burning after the strike. The incident highlights a major escalation in tensions in the strategic waters of the Persian Gulf, a crucial global oil shipping route.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan has also reported being drawn into the conflict, alleging that Iranian forces launched drone attacks in the Nakhchivan region, an exclave of Azerbaijan bordering Iran. Local reports stated that the drone strikes caused damage to infrastructure, including a school building in the town of Julfa. The developments come as the conflict entered its sixth day, with casualties continuing to rise. Iranian authorities said that the death toll from the ongoing attacks has reached 1,230. According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the figures were cited from the Foundation for Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.

The casualties reportedly include both civilians and members of the country’s security forces. Iranian officials have been releasing daily updates on the toll since a joint military strike by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets last Saturday. The latest escalation has raised fears of a broader regional conflict, with analysts warning that further military actions could destabilise the already volatile Middle East region
