India witnesses a major reshuffle as President Droupadi Murmu appoints nine new governors, including Jishnu Dev Varma for Maharashtra and key postings across multiple states.

New Delhi | 6March 2026 President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday approved a significant reshuffle of governors across India, appointing nine new officials to various state positions. Among them, Jishnu Dev Varma, formerly the governor of Telangana, has been named the new governor of Maharashtra.
This reshuffle comes following the resignation of C. V. Ananda Bose as the governor of West Bengal, with R. N. Ravi, previously of Tamil Nadu, assigned to the post. Additionally, retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain has been entrusted with the governorship of Bihar.

Other key transfers include the appointment of Rajendra Arlekar to Tamil Nadu, while Vinay Kumar Saxena, previously the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will now serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. The outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has been transferred to Himachal Pradesh.

The presidential orders mark one of the largest gubernatorial reshuffles in recent years, aiming to strengthen administrative coordination and governance across states. Political analysts note that such transfers often reflect strategic considerations and ensure smooth functioning of state administrations in line with constitutional provisions.
