JODHPUR, 15 November 2025 – A shocking crime has shaken Nehru Colony in Jodhpur after a 16-day-old infant was killed by his four aunts, allegedly due to a superstition that the child was the reason their marriages were being delayed. The baby’s father told police that the women believed sacrificing the newborn would remove obstacles from their lives. He has demanded strict punishment and said he never imagined his own relatives could commit such an act.
Police say the incident took place inside the family home. The four women took the infant late at night and carried out the killing while other members were unaware. When the father realised the baby was missing and confronted the women, the truth emerged, leading him to immediately file a complaint at the Air Force Police Station. Officers arrived at the scene, secured the area and began detailed questioning of all family members. The accused have been detained and are being interrogated, while forensic teams are collecting evidence to confirm the sequence of events.
The case has sparked widespread anger. Locals gathered outside the residence demanding immediate action, and many expressed disbelief at how superstition could push people to such extremes. Police officials said the women will be charged with murder and offences related to child cruelty, and may also face sections that address human-sacrifice-related crimes under state law. They added that the investigation will be fast-tracked due to the seriousness of the incident.
Child-rights activists have also reacted strongly, calling it a brutal reminder of how harmful beliefs continue to endanger children in several parts of the country. They have urged authorities to strengthen community awareness and ensure that vulnerable families are monitored more closely. Legal experts say the case highlights the urgent need for education campaigns in regions where superstitions still hold influence over personal decisions, often leading to violence.
As the probe continues, the father has asked authorities to ensure that the accused do not secure easy bail and that the case is pursued to its strictest legal conclusion. Police have assured him that they will move firmly and gather all necessary evidence to secure conviction. The neighbourhood remains tense as the community tries to come to terms with the tragedy, and officers have increased patrols in the area to prevent unrest.
