Kadsiddheshwar Swami was booked under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a speech on 9 October allegedly insulted the Lingayat community. Complaint filed by a Karnataka resident; case transferred to Jat police.
Sangli |09 December 2025:A fresh case has been registered against Kadsiddheshwar Swami, the 49th mathadipati of Shri Siddha Giri Math, following allegations that a speech delivered by him hurt the religious sentiments of the Lingayat community. The FIR, lodged under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, was initially filed as a Zero FIR from Karnataka’s Vijaypur district and later transferred to the Jat Police Station in Sangli district.
The complaint refers to a discourse given by Kadsiddheshwar Swami on 9 October at Bilur Math, where he allegedly targeted Lingayat seers advocating for a separate Lingayat identity condemning their practices and criticizing efforts to diverge from traditional Hindu customs. It is claimed that during the sermon he even suggested that those leading the movement “should be beaten with chappals,” a statement construed as provocative and inflammatory.

Inspector Sandeep Kolekar of the Sangli police station confirmed that the case has been registered and is under investigation. Police sources say they will examine the contents of the speech and statements from the complainant before determining further legal action.
Kadsiddheshwar Swami, known for his work in organic farming, managing a gaushala (cattle shelter), school and hospital, has defended his remarks. He has claimed the FIR is politically motivated, arguing that his sermon was meant to counter attempts to divide the Hindu community, and not to insult or provoke any group.

In response to growing protests and public disorder concerns, the district collector of Vijaypur has temporarily barred him from entering the area until 14 December. The case has stirred reactions from community leaders and activists, with many urging restraint and peaceful dialogue while police continue their probe.
