Kagal–Kasegaon Highway in Kolhapur in Hazardous Condition Due to Incomplete Work
Kasegaon
The Kagal–Kasegaon stretch of the highway has become dangerous as potholes, unfinished flyovers, and incomplete widening works disrupt traffic and put commuters at risk.
Kolhapur | December 13, 2025: The Kagal–Kasegaon section of the Pune–Kolhapur highway is facing severe issues due to incomplete construction and damaged road surfaces, making the route perilous for commuters. Large potholes, half-built flyovers, and ongoing widening works have left the highway in a hazardous state, prompting frustration among daily travelers.
Between Kasegaon and Pethnaka, seven underpasses remain unfinished, with flyover construction dragging on for the past two to three years. Despite the lack of progress, traffic continues to flow on these poorly maintained roads, which have become littered with deep potholes and damaged stretches. The road widening work between Pethnaka and Yelur is mostly completed, but potholes and damaged patches clearly highlight poor construction standards.
In several places, local residents have started using the highway for purposes other than transit. Vehicles are parked on road stretches, cattle and herds are seen grazing on the highway, and in some areas, the road has been used to tether livestock, reflecting the unsafe and chaotic conditions.
The Yelur–Vathar stretch is particularly worrisome. Underpasses and flyover work have stagnated for a long period, leaving traffic dependent on the main road, which cannot safely handle two-way movement. The Kini toll road, despite being operational, runs through areas where potholes reach one-and-a-half to two feet deep and widths narrow due to damaged sections, making it difficult and risky for vehicles to pass.Other incomplete flyovers at Ambap, Top, Nagav Phata, and Sangli Phata have stood idle for one to two years, further obstructing traffic flow. Hundreds of half-built structures along the Kasegaon–Kagal stretch continue to create a “trap” for drivers.
Motorists have raised concerns over paying tolls on roads that are in such disrepair. With uneven surfaces, deep craters, and broken patches, they question the safety and logic of toll collection on a highway that has yet to be properly completed and made traffic-worthy.
