The second day of the 51st Kolhapur Range Police Sports Tournament 2025 wrapped up at Barhanpur Police Sub-Headquarters in Baramati, Pune Rural, with top athletes winning multiple medals in athletics and judo.

The 51st Kolhapur Range Police Sports Tournament 2025 continued with high energy and strong competition on its second day at the Police Sub-Headquarters in Barhanpur, Baramati. Pune Rural Police received the honour of hosting this year’s tournament, which is being held from November 17 to November 21. Representatives from Pune Rural, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur and other districts are participating in the annual event, known for fostering sportsmanship and fitness within the police force.

Day 2 featured a packed schedule of individual and team events, with medals decided in athletics and judo. Teams competing in group-stage formats were divided into two pools, and the top two teams from each will progress to the next round based on points. The matches were tightly contested, reflecting months of preparation by the participants.

In athletics, several district units delivered standout performances. In the men’s 5000m race, Shivam Kapale of Satara claimed gold, while Sonali Desai from Kolhapur won the 800m women’s event. Satara continued its dominance through Nihal More, who won the 200m men’s sprint, and Gauri Sawant, who secured gold in the 200m women’s race. Pune Rural also earned strong victories with Harshali Gunjal winning the 400m women’s event and Priyanka Darekar securing first place in the women’s javelin throw. Other notable gold medalists included Akash Hinge (Solapur City) in men’s javelin, Chaitanya Marde (Satara) in triple jump, and Vaishnavi Shinde (Satara) in the 400m hurdles.

The judo events saw equally impressive performances. In the men’s category, gold medalists included Amar Karade (60 kg, Sangli), Nikhil Jangde (66 kg, Satara), Satyajit Tangude (73 kg, Kolhapur), Kunal Zhende (81 kg, Kolhapur), Aditya Ijekar (90 kg, Satara), Vishal Gambhire (100 kg, Pune Rural) and Abhishek Patil (100+ kg, Kolhapur). In the women’s category, Satara dominated the podium with golds for Gayatri Dalvi (48 kg), Himani Sonawane (52 kg), Swati Jadhav (57 kg), Mansi Kshirsagar (63 kg), Vanita Kolpe (70 kg), Dhanashree Mandave (78 kg) and Pragya Pharande (78+ kg).

Throughout the day, athletes demonstrated discipline, stamina and team spirit, earning appreciation from senior officials who were present to cheer them on. Pune Rural SP Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional SP Ramesh Chopde, SDPO Sudarshan Rathod and other senior officers personally visited the event grounds, praising the participants for their skill and dedication. They encouraged all units to compete with confidence and uphold the pride of the Kolhapur Range Police.

The event has also attracted strong local engagement, with schools and citizens visiting to witness the matches. Vidya Pratishthan Baramati and Zilla Parishad School Bhigwan attended the tournament to inspire students and promote sports in the community. The organising team has invited more citizens and youngsters to attend the remaining competition days and support the athletes.

With three days still to go, the tournament is expected to continue delivering intense contests as teams vie for championship honours. The event not only highlights physical strength but also reflects the commitment of the police department toward fitness, teamwork and public goodwill.
