Kolhapur | 07 March, 2026: With temperatures gradually rising ahead of summer, the administration of the famous Ambabai Temple in Kolhapur has initiated a practical step to protect devotees from the scorching ground. Workers have begun painting special heat-reflective white stripes along the temple premises and the pathway used by devotees waiting in the darshan queue.
Every day, thousands of devotees visit the temple dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, and most of them walk barefoot inside the premises as part of religious tradition. During summer months, the stone flooring and open pathways often become extremely hot, causing discomfort and even burns to devotees’ feet.
To address this issue, temple authorities have started applying a special “cool coat” type white paint that reflects heat and helps keep the surface temperature lower. The stripes are being painted along areas where devotees frequently walk, particularly in the queue route leading to the temple entrance.

Officials said the work is being carried out on a priority basis so that the facility is ready before the peak summer season begins. The measure is expected to significantly reduce heat exposure for devotees who often stand in long queues for darshan.
Kolhapur’s Ambabai Temple is one of Maharashtra’s most prominent pilgrimage sites and attracts thousands of visitors from across the state and other parts of the country. Managing large crowds while ensuring the comfort and safety of devotees remains a key challenge for the temple administration.
By introducing these heat-reducing pathways, the authorities aim to make the darshan experience more comfortable while maintaining the traditional practice of entering the temple barefoot.
