Kothrud Police Arrest Notorious Gaja Marne Gang Member Rupesh Marne After Nine Months on the Run
Kothrud Police nabbed wanted gangster Rupesh Marne, a key aide of Gaja Marne gang, after nine months of evasion. He faces over 20 serious charges.
Pune,October 29, 2025 – The Pune City Police achieved a major breakthrough as the Kothrud Police Station team arrested notorious gangster Rupesh Krishna Rao Marne, a key member of the Gaja Marne gang, who had been absconding for nearly nine months. The arrest is seen as a crucial step in dismantling one of Pune’s most feared organised-crime networks.
An offence (Crime No. 46/2025) was registered at Kothrud Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) — 109, 118(1), 118(2), 126(2), 111(2), and 3(5) — as well as the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Sections 3(1)(ii) and 3(4). The case was originally filed on February 19, 2025, against gang leader Gajanan alias Gaja Marne and several of his associates.
According to police, Gaja Marne and his gang had been spreading fear and dominance in the Sutardara and Kothrud areas of Pune by committing a series of violent crimes. Their activities included attempted murder, burglary, assault, property damage, unlawful possession of deadly weapons, and attacks on civilians. The gang was also known for causing injuries through sharp weapons and creating unrest in residential neighborhoods.
Among the wanted members, Rupesh Krishna Rao Marne (41), a resident of Navekta Colony, Hamraj Chowk, Shastri Nagar, Kothrud, had been evading arrest since the case was filed. Police records show that he faces over 20 serious criminal charges in Pune and nearby districts, including assault, armed violence, and organised-crime offences.
Following months of intensive search operations, officers received a confidential tip-off on October 27, 2025, indicating that Rupesh Marne was hiding in Andgaon village, Mulshi taluka, Pune district. Acting swiftly on the information, a team from Kothrud Police conducted a surprise raid at the location. During the search, the accused was found hiding inside a bedroom in his residence. He was immediately taken into custody.
The investigation into the organised-crime case is being led by Assistant Police Commissioner Vijay Kumbhar, from the Crime Branch Unit 1, Pune City Police. After the arrest, Rupesh Marne was handed over to the investigating team for further legal proceedings and interrogation.
Senior officers commended the swift and coordinated efforts of the team. The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kothrud Division) Bhausaheb Pathare. The field operation was executed by Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane, and his team consisting of Police Constables Ambadas Lohkande, Sanjay Dahibhate, Ajay Shirke, and Somnath Hulge.
