Pune | December 04, 2025: In Tuesday’s municipal council and nagar panchayat elections across Pune district, female voters emerged as a crucial factor in four councils, signaling a potential shift in election outcomes. Lonavala, Indapur, Jejuri, and Bhor municipal councils recorded more women voters than men, making women the likely “game changers” in these areas.
A total of 3,06,022 voters exercised their franchise on December 2, with 1,55,035 men and 1,50,987 women participating. Although male voters slightly outnumbered female voters overall, the trend in the four councils shows women could play a decisive role in determining the results.
The councils with a higher proportion of female voters include:
- Lonavala: 17,162 women, 17,349 men
- Indapur: 9,750 women, 10,083 men
- Jejuri: 5,895 women, 6,436 men
- Bhor: 6,428 women, 6,437 men
Voting for 12 municipal councils and three nagar panchayats proceeded as scheduled, while elections in Baramati, Phursungi, and Uruli Devachi were postponed by the State Election Commission. Overall voter turnout in the district averaged 68 percent.
Among individual councils, Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council recorded the lowest turnout at 49.24 percent, with 16,555 men and 15,291 women casting votes out of 64,679 registered voters. In contrast, Indapur Municipal Council saw the highest turnout of 79.89 percent, with 19,837 voters participating from a total of 24,829 registered, including 10,083 women.
The increased influence of female voters in these four councils highlights the growing role of women in shaping local governance outcomes across Pune district.
