Kumamoto, Japan | November 13, 2025: India’s badminton stars had a mixed day at the Kumamoto Masters in Japan. Lakshya Sen (world No. 15) cruised into the quarterfinals of the men’s singles event with a dominant 21-13, 21-11 victory over Singapore’s Jason Teh in just 39 minutes.
His performance was composed and controlled, as he opened an 8-5 lead early in the first game and then pulled ahead with precision shot-making and strong net play. The second game saw him surge to an 11-3 lead at the interval and never look back.
Sen’s next opponent will be his familiar rival, former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
On the other hand, HS Prannoy could not continue his recent good form and bowed out after a 21-18, 21-15 defeat to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke. Prannoy had earlier scraped past Malaysia’s world No. 22 Leong Jun Hao 16-21, 21-13, 23-21 to reach this round.

The contrasting outcomes underline the fine margins at the top level. While Sen impressed with his attacking rhythm and control, Prannoy’s loss emphasises the challenges of recovering full-form after injuries and inconsistent outings this season. With Sen still in the hunt, Indian badminton fans have one strong draw to watch as the tournament progresses.
