Pimparkhed (Shirur) | November 04, 2025:A 13-year-old boy, Rohan Vilas Bombe, was mauled to death by a leopard in Pimparkhed village of Shirur taluka on Sunday evening, sparking outrage across the region. Following the incident, local residents, along with political leaders, began an indefinite roadblock protest near Nandi Chowk at Tambademala–Bhorwadi on the Pune–Nashik National Highway on Monday morning.

The protesters demanded that the leopard responsible for the attacks be immediately hunted down and the area be declared leopard-free. They also warned that the agitation would continue until Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar and Forest Minister Ganesh Naik visit the protest site and announce concrete action.

Leading the protest were family members of the deceased including Rohan’s mother Madhuri Bombe alongside several political figures such as MP Dr. Amol Kolhe, Devdatt Nikam, Suresh Bhor, Ramesh Yewale, Prabhakar Bangar, Babaji Chaskar, Naresh Dhome, Dada Thorat, Ravindra and Pooja Valse Patil, Sopanna Shinde, and Mauli Dhome.

According to Rohan’s relative, Sachin Bombe, this is the third fatal leopard attack in the area within 20 days. “Earlier, five-year-old Shivnya Shailesh Bombe from Pimparkhed and 70-year-old Bhagubai Jadhav from Jambut were killed. Authorities only give assurances but no lasting solution,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, MP Amol Kolhe, and MLAs Sharad Sonawane and Vijay Pawar held discussions over the phone with the protesters, assuring that a high-level meeting would be held in Mumbai on Tuesday to address the recurring leopard attacks.

Naik also assured that he would visit the site within three days and take concrete steps to resolve the issue permanently.
