Residents in Lohgaon complain of illegal stalls, late-night disturbances, rash driving and violence, urging authorities to restore law and order.

Pune | 26 February 2026: Residents of Lohgaon in Pune have voiced serious concerns over growing safety issues in their locality, alleging that illegal roadside shops and unchecked late-night activities have turned the neighbourhood into a zone of chaos and insecurity. Families living in residential pockets say that what was once a relatively peaceful area has now become disturbed by noise, reckless behavior, and frequent confrontations that continue well past midnight.

According to residents, several unauthorized stalls-including food kiosks, paan shops, and makeshift eateries—operate late into the night without proper permits. These establishments reportedly attract large groups of people, leading to noise pollution, street crowding, and occasional altercations. Locals claim that attempts to question vendors or ask them to lower noise levels have sometimes escalated into heated arguments, leaving residents feeling intimidated.

Adding to the unrest, groups of youths allegedly gather near these stalls after dark, consuming alcohol openly and creating disturbances. Residents report shouting, loud music, and even physical fights taking place in the streets. The situation is further aggravated by bikers riding in groups with modified silencers, producing explosive sounds as they speed through residential lanes after midnight. Families with elderly members and young children say the relentless noise and unpredictable behavior have severely affected their sense of security and peace.

Several residents have raised concerns about road safety as well. Reckless driving, sudden racing of motorcycles, and crowded footpaths due to roadside stalls have increased the risk of accidents. Pedestrians, especially women and senior citizens, reportedly avoid stepping out at night due to fear of harassment or confrontation. Some families say they now restrict outdoor movement after dark, citing the lack of visible enforcement.

Despite multiple complaints to local authorities, residents claim that little tangible action has been taken so far. They are urging coordinated intervention from the police and civic administration to remove illegal structures, enforce closing time regulations, and conduct regular night patrols. Community members believe stricter enforcement of noise control norms and traffic rules could significantly improve the situation.

Urban planning experts note that rapid expansion in suburban pockets like Lohgaon often leads to gaps in enforcement and infrastructure planning. When commercial activities grow unchecked in residential areas, it can strain civic systems and lead to law-and-order concerns. Proper zoning, licensing enforcement, and active policing are considered critical in maintaining balance between business activity and residential safety.

Residents have also appealed to elected representatives to intervene and ensure accountability. They are demanding a structured action plan that includes the removal of unauthorized stalls, tighter monitoring of late-night operations, and enhanced surveillance in sensitive areas. Many say that without prompt intervention, the situation may worsen, affecting property values and overall community well-being.

The issue highlights a broader challenge faced by rapidly developing urban areas—ensuring safety, discipline, and civic order while accommodating economic activity. For Lohgaon residents, the priority remains clear: restoring peace and making the neighbourhood safe again for families.
