The neglected tomb of Maharani Tara Rani at Sangammahuli, Satara, will be restored with government-approved plans. Historical conservation work begins, honoring her legacy as Mughal Mardini and Maratha leader.
Satara| December 2, 2025: The long-neglected tomb of Maharani Tara Rani, wife of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj and a key Maratha leader against Aurangzeb, is set to be restored in Sangammahuli, Satara. Authorities have approved a detailed plan to rebuild and develop a grand memorial, marking a significant step in preserving Maratha heritage.

Maharani Tara Rani, daughter of Sarsenapati Hambirrao Baji Mohite, led her army for over seven years against Aurangzeb’s massive forces, safeguarding Hindavi Swarajya. Her tomb, located at the confluence of Krishna and Venna rivers, had suffered from floods and years of neglect.

The project gained momentum due to efforts by Chh. Udayanraje Bhosale and Public Works Minister Chh.Shivendraraje Bhosale. A meeting with Satara District Collector and officials on April 28, 2025, finalized the preservation of monuments, including those of Chh.Thorle Shahu Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai. Funds were approved, and restoration is scheduled to begin soon.
Previously, volunteers discovered and temporarily repaired the tomb in 2007. Recently, conservationist Gaurav Ghode applied Vajralep to the stone remains, extending their durability by 50 years. The redevelopment plan includes structural restoration and protective measures to ensure the memorial’s long-term preservation.

Historians and citizens have welcomed the decision, recognizing Maharani Tara Rani’s pivotal role in Maratha history. The project underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the legacy of key figures in India’s heritage.
