Maharashtra Cabinet Allocates 8,015 Sq Ft Land on Senapati Bapat Road for New Pune Press Club Building
Maharashtra State clears 8,015 sq ft plot on Senapati Bapat Road for Pune Press Club, paving way for larger media facility and journalist welfare centre.
Pune |08 December 2025: The Maharashtra state government has approved the allotment of a roughly 8,015 square-foot parcel of land on Senapati Bapat Road in Pune for the construction of a new facility for the Pune Press Club. The decision came during a recent Cabinet meeting, following an initiative by the Revenue Minister, as part of efforts to strengthen media infrastructure in the city.
The plot registered as Final Plot No. 881/A in Mauje Bhamburda – will be transferred under “Class-2 occupant rights,” on commercial terms and in line with the valuation norms defined under the state’s land-revenue laws. The allotment adheres to the provisions of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966 and the Disposal of Government Lands Rules, 1971.
For years, the association of Pune journalists has voiced the need for a larger, better-equipped Press Club. With the rapid expansion of media operations and a growing number of working journalists in Pune, the current premises have become inadequate to accommodate training programmes, skill-development workshops, health camps, social welfare events, and gatherings involving senior editors, government officials, judicial dignitaries, and media veterans.
Officials expect the new building to support a broad agenda: capacity-building sessions, medical check-ups for journalists and their families, study tours, welfare initiatives, and event hosting. Many in the media community believe such a facility will foster professionalism and create a supportive space for journalists.

The location on Senapati Bapat Road already known as a major arterial stretch in Pune could further increase accessibility and visibility for the Press Club. Given the likely demand from media persons across Pune and neighbouring regions, a purpose-built facility could become a central hub for journalistic activities, training, networking, and community welfare.
The allotment also reflects a broader recognition by the state government of the crucial role played by journalists and media organisations. By providing land on commercial terms and granting occupant rights, authorities have offered a stable, legally sound foundation for the Press Club’s long-term plans. The new facility is expected not only to strengthen infrastructure, but also to enhance the sense of community and institutional support among media professionals.
For Pune’s media fraternity, this decision marks the culmination of a long-standing demand for proper infrastructure. As plans for the construction begin, many look forward to a modern Press Club building that meets contemporary needs from training halls and meeting rooms to welfare centres and event spaces.
