IMD warns of rising heat and humidity across Maharashtra over next 24 hours with dry conditions ahead; experts urge hydration, travel caution and heat preparedness.

Pune| 04 February, 2026 – Maharashtra is set to experience a noticeable rise in heat and humidity over the next 24 hours, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a crucial weather advisory for residents across the state. According to the IMD, brief atmospheric disturbances that caused light rainfall and cloudy conditions in isolated pockets between February 2 and February 4 are now weakening, making way for clearer skies and drier weather. As a result, daytime temperatures are expected to climb steadily, marking an early transition from winter to summer-like conditions. While the heat levels are not extreme, meteorologists have emphasized that the combination of rising temperatures and increasing humidity can cause discomfort and mild heat stress, particularly in urban and coastal regions.

The Konkan belt, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, is expected to experience maximum temperatures ranging between 29°C and 32°C, with night temperatures remaining relatively warm at 23°C to 25°C. High humidity levels along the coast may intensify the sensation of heat, especially during afternoon hours. In Western Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur, dry weather will dominate, with daytime temperatures hovering between 29°C and 32°C and cooler mornings gradually giving way to warmer afternoons. North Maharashtra districts such as Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar are also expected to witness a temperature rise, with maximums touching 33°C in some areas.

Marathwada and Vidarbha regions are likely to feel the most pronounced warming trend. Districts like Latur, Beed, Parbhani, Jalna, and Nanded may see temperatures climb to 34°C, while Vidarbha cities including Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal will experience dry conditions and typical early-summer heat levels. The IMD has clarified that no yellow, orange, or red alerts have been issued for Maharashtra at present, indicating the absence of severe weather threats. However, officials have advised caution, particularly for vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, children, and people working outdoors.

Weather experts note that warmer February conditions are becoming increasingly common and may be linked to broader climatic patterns such as global warming and seasonal variability influenced by phenomena like El Niño. In recent years, Maharashtra has witnessed similar early-season heat spikes, sometimes followed by intense summer heatwaves in March and April. Rising minimum temperatures are also a key indicator of shifting seasonal cycles, affecting agriculture, water consumption, and overall energy demand. Farmers are advised to monitor soil moisture levels, ensure adequate irrigation for crops, and protect livestock from heat stress as dry conditions persist.

The IMD has recommended that residents stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and wear light, breathable clothing. Travelers and daily commuters are advised to plan journeys during early morning or late evening hours to minimize heat exposure. Health experts warn that dehydration, fatigue, and heat exhaustion can occur even in moderate temperatures when humidity is high, making awareness and preventive measures essential.

As Maharashtra prepares for warmer days ahead, the current advisory serves as an early reminder of the approaching summer season. While the weather remains stable and free from extreme alerts, the gradual rise in heat and humidity underscores the importance of heat preparedness, responsible water use, and climate-conscious planning. Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely, and residents are encouraged to follow official updates from the IMD to stay informed as the season progresses.
